Sports, remedial massage and aromatherapy massage, myofascial release, and reflexology
Myriam Ortega initially qualified as a massage therapist at City and Islington College in 2009. Since then she has devoted significant time to professional development, studying a range of different massage techniques and adding subsequent diplomas.
Her main area of specialism is Sports Massage (she holds an ITEC level 4 diploma) but she is also a practitioner of remedial massage, aromatherapy massage, myofascial release and reflexology.
Myriam’s interest in massage stems from growing up in a sporty household where various family members suffered from sports-related injuries during her youth and a massage therapist would visit her home to help treat these.
Initially she fell in love with the smell of the oil but it wasn’t until she suffered from a hand injury later in life that she understood fully the benefits of massage. Having seen little improvement to her condition after physiotherapy Myriam tried massage, which ended up playing a significant part in her recovery. Its role in her own healing process ignited Myriam’s interest in the benefits of massage further, leading her to qualify as a massage therapist herself.
When working with clients, Myriam typically blends massage techniques to address their individual needs.
Commenting on the benefits of massage, Myriam says: “Massage has many benefits, both physical and psychological. It can prevent injuries, enhance performance and release stress. It is the least invasive way to promote wellbeing and strengthen the body’s own defence system.”
